As discussed above, hominoid taxonomy has undergone several changes. Genetic analysis shows that apes diverged from the Old World monkeys between 29 million and 34.5 million years ago. 哺乳類的演化 ~3千5百萬年前

如標題所述，人科系統經歷了一些轉變。根據遺傳分析表明，猿猴在2千9百萬到3千4百5十萬年前時，在演化上已經偏離了舊世界猴分科。而猿猴在1千8百萬年前分成較小與較大的，而人科又分成幾個部份：1千4百萬年前(猩猩屬)，7百萬年前(大猩猩屬)，以及3-4百萬年前(智人屬&黑猩猩屬)。
